So this week I tried some Light Mountain Natural hair dye. It was an interesting experience to say the least. The dye itself is totally awesome. It’s made from henna, it’s good for you, and the company does not test on animals. You can order it online and it comes with a handy set of directions. The directions are very useful, except they do not really explain how long to leave in the dye. My hair does look darker after using the dye, but it is not quite “burgundy”. I plan on trying it again, and leaving it in for longer. If you have darker hair, I’d suggest leaving it in for 1-2 hours (I left it in for about 45 min). It’s best to do a strand test, which I did not do. Strand test means you cut a little bit of your hair and test the dye on the cut hair to determine how long to leave it in. I didn’t do that, because I am lazy. Do not be lazy.
In other news….the hair dye texture and smell is…unique. Okay it looks a little bit like elephant poop. And the smell is very earthy crunchy….and may be a little poopy as well. The smell is not pleasant, but I was not gagging or anything while I was sitting with the dye in my hair. It’s bearable. And worth being healthier. Smells are fine, toxins in your body…not fine.
In review, you’re going to make the dye, slowly cover chunks of your hair, leave in for…as long as your heart tells you, then rinse out with warm water. Best advice: follow the directions. Overall, this is a hippie-loving, totally awesome, weird smelling, worth-it product.
